Born from a joint venture between Geeksphone and Silent Circle, Blackphone represented an industry breakthrough by becoming the world’s first privacy-first smartphone designed for consumer use. Adopted by governments across all continents, Fortune 100 corporations, and multilateral organizations, it is still widely used around the world.
The Blackphone featured a secure operating system (PrivatOS) with advanced privacy features such as Spaces and the Blackphone Security Center. Thanks to peer-to-peer encryption and Silent Phone using a secure fiber-optic network, users could talk and text safely across the globe while roaming over cellular networks.
The Blackphone was recognized as Top 25 Inventions of the Year 2014 by TIME Magazine, Top 10 Technology Breakthroughs by MIT Technology Review, among other accolades. It is part of the permanent collection of the International Spy Museum of Washington DC and the Royal Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Its impact carried on beyond its product lifetime, as several of its innovations such as individual app permission management and secure boot have been incorporated into the mainstream Android distribution.
Designed and manufactured by Geeksphone in secure facilities. Network infrastructure provided by SafeHost.
